NFC business cards

The business card that never goes out of date

How HexaFlow designed, built and launched Nexus: an NFC card platform that runs a whole company's cards from one place, in five languages, across the UK, Europe and the Gulf.

The problem

Paper is out of date the day it's printed

People change roles and numbers, companies rebrand, and the old cards keep circulating. The details rarely reach anyone's phone, never mind a CRM, and nobody can tell which meetings turned into business.

NFC cards fix the obvious part: tap a card on a phone and a profile opens, with no app to install. The hard part is everything behind that tap.

For a professional

The profile has to look good, load instantly on any phone, save straight to contacts, and change the moment their job does.

For a company

Hundreds of cards have to stay on brand. Someone decides who can change what, and when a person leaves, their card and contacts stay with the company.

Every card already printed has to keep working. A link engraved into a metal card can't be reissued.

So every card points at a permanent address. Reassign it, offboard its owner or rebrand the company, and the card in someone's wallet still opens the right profile.
The editor

Every colour, corner and typeface is a setting

Profiles are built from blocks: links, socials, text, images, video, files and lead forms. Every style starts at the template's value and can be changed, then restored with one click. The piece we're proudest of is automatic contrast: pick any button colour and Nexus picks text that stays readable, using a very dark or very light shade of the same hue.

The company console

Where a card becomes a system

Companies invite staff one by one or import a whole team from a spreadsheet, group them into departments, and decide how much freedom each person gets.

Owner

Everything, including billing.

Admin

The whole company.

Department manager

Their own department, with exactly the powers the company grants.

Employee

Their own profile and card.

Access rules

Start from a preset (company controls everything, shared, or employees manage their own), then set each part of a profile to one of three levels. Exceptions can be made for one person without touching anyone else.

Approvals

An edit that needs sign-off waits in a queue, side by side with what's live, until a manager approves it. Everyone is told in the app, and each person only ever sees their own notifications.

Company cards

Cards ordered for a company land in its pool, already registered. Admins hand them out, reassign them, block a lost one in seconds, and keep a full history of who held which card.

Offboarding

When someone leaves, their cards return to the pool and their profile is archived. The old link forwards to a colleague or explains they've moved on, and every contact they collected stays with the company.

Analytics

Every tap, on a map

Nexus shows where profiles are opened, by card tap, QR scan or shared link, at city level, with filters by card and date. It tracks saves, exchanges and leads over time, and it does all of this without tracking cookies or storing a single IP address.

How we built it

One codebase, three faces, five markets

A single Next.js application sits behind a routing layer that decides which face each request gets and which language it's in, and applies security headers to every response.

nexustap.co

The website, in five languages, each at its own address.

app.nexustap.co

Sign-in, the dashboard, the company console and admin.

link.nexustap.co

Public profiles and card taps. Every printed link is permanent.

Built to pass a security review

Business cards carry personal data, and Nexus sells to companies with procurement teams.

  • Field-level encryption (AES-256-GCM) of contact details and secrets, with keyed lookups on encrypted emails.
  • Two-step verification, breached-password checks and rate limiting on every sensitive action.
  • Least privilege: every team rule lives in one place and is enforced on the server.
  • Strict headers: a Content Security Policy, HSTS, and an audit log of administrative actions.
  • EU hosting in Amsterdam: application, database and files, so European customers' data stays in Europe.

Reaching five markets

Found, and read, in every market Nexus sells to.

  • English, Arabic, German, Spanish and French on separate URLs, so search engines index every version.
  • Right to left for Arabic, and careful typography down to how long German words wrap on a small phone.
  • A page for each market: the UK, Europe, the UAE, Oman and Saudi Arabia.
  • Language offers, not redirects. Visitors are never forced away from the page they asked for.
